Check out Cineify - which uses the amazing YTS teams API and Instant.io to create a "Popcorn Time" lite version 🛠 Controlling videos with Alpinejs https://jakey.dev/post/controlling-videos-with-alpinejs Wed, 26 Aug 2020 00:00:00 +0000 How to control videos with the "Tiny Javascript Framework" alpine.js Creating lots of data quickly with Laravel https://jakey.dev/post/creating-lots-of-data-quickly-with-laravel Wed, 09 Sep 2020 00:00:00 +0000 Creating data using factories is a great convience when working with seeding test databases - but its very slow for big datasets you might want to create. Getting a DigitalOcean Droplet ready for Laravel https://jakey.dev/post/getting-a-digitalocean-droplet-ready-for-laravel Thu, 12 Dec 2019 00:00:00 +0000 When I am out and about, I tend to fire up a DigitalOcean droplet to do all my work on because of dodgy public WIFI - but I always need to play around and configure them manually. Here are my steps I take along with a quick and easy script to automate this! Install Tailwind with Laravel https://jakey.dev/post/install-tailwind-with-laravel Tue, 30 Jun 2020 00:00:00 +0000 Tailwind is an incredible CSS Framework, but how do you get it working - with all the cool bits like purging and rule usage in scss - in Laravel. Netlify - PHP Version https://jakey.dev/post/netlify-php-version Tue, 17 Dec 2019 00:00:00 +0000 Netlify is a great service - it allows you to deploy your website from GIT, built and then served via the companies CDN channels. Serverless Websites https://jakey.dev/post/serverless-websites Sat, 18 Feb 2017 00:00:00 +0000 I've been interested in serverless web systems ever since I was asked by a client to setup a store on the popular p2p marketplace called OpenBazaar. The idea fascinated me - instead of connecting to normal servers, you connect to peers - like Torrents - and download the websites from them. The only issue for me with this system was that you had to download software to do it. This got me thinking - can you do the same sort of things with normal websites, without downloading new software? Tailwind && Laravel Mix - Getting that CSS filesize down https://jakey.dev/post/tailwind-laravel-mix-getting-that-css-filesize-down Sat, 04 Apr 2020 00:00:00 +0000 I use the CSS utility library called Tailwind for a lot of sites these days - but as it generates thousands of classes that help you when you are building quickly - CSS filesizes can get BIG very quickly! Here is how I use Laravel Mix to get my filesizes down. Laravel Analytics https://jakey.dev/post/dont-give-your-site-analytics-to-a-third-party-laravel-analytics Wed, 14 Oct 2020 00:00:00 +0000 For too long now I have been using third party tools to collect site analytics that glean so much information out of users that I really DO NOT NEED (heres looking at you Google Analytics!). Lets build a package for Laravel that can collect our own stats and display them for us instead as we are super privacy focused!
